A fundamental date for the great Domenico Modugno, who just that day made his debut in Turin with "Rinaldo in Campo", with a company made of all friends, from Delia Scala to Paolo Panelli, from the veteran Giuseppe Porelli to the novice Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia.
"In this play we tell you about the exploits of brigand Rinaldo Dragonera, who has his den near Catania. Rinaldo is a gentleman brigand, who steals to the riches for giving poors. With this Sicilian Robin Hood falls in love Angelica, Valscutari's baroness, backer of Garibaldi, masterfully interpreted by Delia Scala. Thanks to Angelica brigand Dragonera underwent a metamorphosis: from brigand to patriot. Angelica is also the author of Rinaldo's sentimental education: from lady-killer who loved everybody and nobody, from Sicilian man who said "my girlfriend is Sicily", Rinaldo opens to pure feelings, falling in love and marrying Angelica. Modugno is an ironic Rinaldo, with big temperament and irresistible both during the controversies with Angelica and the comical digressions with his companions of brigandish adventures. While Delia Scala was proving to be an interpreter all-accomplished, giving us a pugnacious Angelica. Not to be forgotten is Paolo Panelli who, as Chiericuzzo, had the honour to interpret the firs death on the stage in the history of musical performances.
